Yesterday I posted in Italian, saying that I would provide a little travel advice for those visiting NYC--some restaurants to go to, things to see, neighborhoods to visit, even hotels to stay at, and so forth.
My original target audience for such "guidebook" posts was Italians, but it occurs to me that Americans coming from all over this vast country might want a little help in getting beyond the usual guidebooks and their rather hackneyed recommendations. Especially when it comes to good places to eat.
For many reasons, the usual guidebooks can't dig very deep, and they generally fail to get visitors out of the stale old venues and neighborhoods. What Fodor may call a trendy area may have been trendy four or five years ago. Now it's likely to be a tourist trap.
So watch this space for short takes on my adventures in eating and drinking in places that are a little out of the way. In Brooklyn, even. (I won't drag you to Staten Island though. Never.)
