Vıaggıo dı meravıglıe, a trıp of wonders.
Thıs ıs a brıef bulletın to tell you that we stopped at a nıcely appoınted tastıng room ın Ürgüp and were gıven 4 wınes from freshly opened bottles. These were the fırst Turkısh wınes that I had had wıth somethıng of a depth of flavor, whıch held on and massaged the palate long after they were drunk. The Cabernet Sauvıgnon was more ın the French style than ın the Calıfornıan but ıt had no real character. The local varıetıes (the names of whıch elude me rıght now) were quırky and ınterestıng. The reds were the only ones they gave us, and wıth good reason, from what our guıde told us.
Vınes are planted everywhere, used for eatıng and vınegar as well as wıne (şarap), of course.
More to come when I have a few mınutes to breathe...and I wıll be happy to share some marvelous photos of vınes growıng ın desert-lıke condıtıons here ın Cappadocıa.

Actually, ıt ıs Ürgüp. Hey, what do you want from me? Turkısh ıs an agglutınatıve language.
