Last evening I drank something I haven't drunk much since the 1970s, a Bordeaux Superieur. I am reminded why.
I won't reinvent the wheel. I found this short review on Verema, which pretty much says it all:
A rustic little bite of purpleness... Blackcurrant, blackberry and cranberry, simplistically rendered, with a hearty espresso aroma cutting through the whole thing. That’s it, on the nose and palate. Chunky tannins and a vegetal thing that borders on the unpleasantly composty on a finish that is quite short, thank the gods...
Amen, brother.
No wonder the less illustrious vignerons of Bordeaux are suffering, if they are still putting out this kind of stuff. For about $10, Italy, Spain, Australia, New Zealand and all of South America can give you a far cleaner, better-tasting wine.
