The President is delivering his annual summary of blowhard bromides, not to say outright lies. All manner of thing will be well, according to the predictable version of spin the TV audience will be subjected to, just so long as we press his little red book to our breasts and follow obediently. Meanwhile, outside of Bush's fantasy kingdom...

The situation in Baghdad is "dire," according to Gen. Petraeus.
New Orleans is slipping into oblivion, a kind of American Pompei.
Middle-class families are indebting themselves to pay medical bills, receiving none of the tax breaks given to the richest, who don't actually need them.
Corporate America has disemboweled the life of small cities, proletarianizing the former middle class.
And the roll call of the dead in Iraq, of Americans and Iraqis alike, grows ever longer.
OK, Sherlock, what the hell do you think the state of this nation is?
Speaking for myself, I think the United States hasn't been this fucked up since the Great Depression.
Let's raise a glass to FDR. Where are you now, Mr. Fireside Chat?

I was so against the State of the Union last night that i was willing to watch two back to back episodes of "The Real Desperate Housewives Of The O.C." It was much more entertaining. What I do look forward to though is tonight's Daily Show for Mr. Stewart and company's recap. Bring it on Jon!

You are so right. Can't wait to see the Daily Show. That'll cut through all the presidential bullshit and newsmen's pontifications.
