As I mentioned yesterday, Domenico had the opportunity to go to a number of grand villas around Verona. The occasions were many and varied, united by the central theme of wine.
Here's a little photo gallery of some of the places he went.
This is where a grand do was held by the Consorzio di
Tutela Vini Soave e Recioto di Soave
And of course Villa Favorita and the VinNatur tasting (about which more in the next post, I promise)
And the grandest of the three, Villa Avredi, where Domenico felt like a country cousin...
These centerpieces were of wine bottles just opened and flash frozen, so that the vapors coming from the bottle were captured visibly -- they beat the hell out of any bar mitzvah centerpieces I've ever seen
Amid all this magnificence it was very nice to sit, eat and chat with the charming Danielle Pollack of Terre di Nano. The affair was held in honor of an internationally known winemaking consultant. Danielle and I agreed that the wines were good but nothing distinctive. But it was wonderful just to be there amid the couture schmattas and discreet facelifts.
