Once I loved Christmas. Once it represented hope and a respite from the disillusioning grime of the world. Now it seems all too filled with the world's tawdriness.
But some little part of the soul still wishes to believe in miracles and in the possibility of a better world.
In that spirit of disappointed hope, with all the freight of the years' sadness and hopeful expectations...Merry Christmas.

Buon Natale, Terry. I thanked you and Alfonso in my solstice post. Cheer up, there's only 6 more months of winter.

Buon Natale a voi, ragazzi.
If there were "only" 6 more months of winter, I'd ... well, let's just say I might move to someplace near the equator.
@ Lizzy -- peccato che non verrai anche tu! Un'altra volta. Buon Natale & Buon Anno.

Hey, bro, you don't have to believe in miracles to believe in a better world, especially if that world is limited (and unlimited!) to those you love and who give meaning to your life. And think of the wine you get to drink! Last night (the Eve) and today made a nice quiet Christmas for us (and five dogs and two cats) and New Year's will be the same. So cheer up, chum, things are getting better for you day by day. And your blog has a groupie! how many of us can say that???

FK, you're right. But I can't help but get blue when I think of when my wife was alive and the kids were small and all of that. Bittersweet.
