Another construction crane collapsed a bit ago, just up the street on First Avenue. The sirens are going mad. This is the third one this year in Manhattan.
Incessant rain continues to pound Turin, and therefore a big swath of Piemonte. Let's hope it ends before too long. Question: what's happening with the grapes? Will 2008 be like 2002? If you know, speak up.
Warm and sunny in the Mezzogiorno, with brief interludes of clouds and light rain.

rain is life!
italy really needed this rain, the last two years have been rather dry...the south was a bake out, and the center-north did not fare much better
in 2007 the usual high pressure off the azores moved east, and most of spain and france (apart from the rhone) suffered excessive rain (east europe had unprecedented heat wave)
this year, seems that the high pressure has moved even further (slightly) east, and fronts are now affeting rhone, piemonte, and tuscany... south (and north east) of italy for now on the edge and staying warm and dry, and check out balkans and east europe heat wave!
today high pressure building up again over central italy, will it build and last or will it be another 2002 like you say? this rain up to now has been great, vines are growing great with excellent water reserve, if the usual italian summer heat wave happens, we are in for a great vintage, hope is the last thing to die!

well it's very spotty...the nw has been chilly and is threatened with floods...veneto was sodden last week, although most people were glad of the rain for the reasons you mention...naples and vicinity was blistering at 38+ early this week, although the heat was quite a dry one till thursday, when it moderated a bit and some new york-style gloom and humidity set in, along with scattered showers...been reading e.e. cummings lately, haw haw haw
