First Harvey Korman, the indispensible second banana of the Carol Burnett Show.
Now one of the originals and greats of R&B and rock n roll, the man who gave us the Bo Diddley beat.
What a sad week.
The man had many avatars. And one hypnotic, Latin-based beat which must have anticipated and shaped reggae. How many girls gave up their virginity while listening to "Mona"?

he was a giant

that's what his 4 wives said!

I saw Bo at the old Palomino Club circa 1986 in N. Hollywood. The Palomino was, and will forever be, the last true Honky Tonk in LA.
Bo just tore it up. After seeing him, I realized how much Jimi
Hendrix borrowed from Bo's act. I also remember thinking at the time how strange it was that the crowd was almost exclusively made up of stoned white guys, with really long hair and wearing black leather jackets. But Bo couldn't have cared less. After the show he mingled, and while my date was bored, I couldn't get enough of watching him. As a dyed in the wool rock 'n' roller, albeit with considerably less hair, I feel really lucky to have seen that show.
RIP Bo, and thanks for all the cool tunes.
ps: RIP Harvey Korman, thanks for all the laffs! (Hedley, HEDLEY!!!!)

Yo, Joe. And I remember your bar-mitzvah too.
BTW, I loved Saugus, California. It was a dry heat.

Both, incidentally, were Chicagoans!

Ciao Marco! That's true, both from Chicago...a true birthplace of talent and genius, obviously!
(Shall I assume you were born there too?)

Terry:
I was born in Rome, while my dad served in U.S. military stationed in Europe; my mom is Roman. I moved to Chicago at 3 months of a age when my parents returned to the States. My dad, however, was born here in Chicago and made his mark as a great surgeon, and then a dedicated wine-maker in the Valpolicella.
Saluti da Chicago!

Ciao, Marco. As you may know, I'll be visiting your dad's house and winery in a few days. It's a beautiful place to visit and, of course, the wines are very good as well. Viva il ripasso!

Terry:
My sister, Laura and I (the proprietors of the villa and winery since our dad passed away in 2000) will be out there in a few weeks, and again in the Fall, and it'd be nice to meet you if you happen to be in/around Verona! I look forward to reading any review of your visit you might post here on "MondoSapore".
Terry, You have an excellent Blog!
Buon Viaggio e Viva San Vito!

Grazie mille, Marco! Sarei molto contento di incontrarti alla bella Villa Monteleone...but I am not planning to revisit that part of Italy for a while.
Un'altra volta allora. Saluti!
