One of my enduring frustrations in eating at good, innovative and often relatively unknown restaurants is that the food is usually far better than the wine that's available. I wrote about a minor instance of that the other day (partly my fault for ordering from their special wine pairing list), and I've touched on it a number of times in the past. (Like here regarding the wines the resto forced on my hosts.)
What are some of the more extreme cases of food/wine mispairing that you've experienced?
What about the state of the food menus vs. the wine lists at your favorite haunts?
It's all grist for the mill, and I think a lot of us would like to share our pain, or simply our frustration, with this phenomenon.

I love to "mismatch" that is mismatching from the book. I love to find my own little combos but then, I grate cheese on a roast dinner.

in this neck o' the woods, wine lists lag behind cuisine in many restaurants, which still depend on wholesalers to full out their wine lists. sometimes we eat out and i open a wine list and automatically start doing it over with more interesting and appropriate wines instead of all the usual suspects.
