-- Well, let me start by telling you I had dinner last night with the OMG (Official Mondosapore Groupie) Lisa Qiu. (Last name pronounced rather like chew.) We ate at Smith's, a small and lovely restaurant on MacDougal Street in the Village. The food was wonderful. The Irancy we ordered was a bad bottle as well as the last in the house. We ordered a slightly lesser but still very pleasant 2005 Burgundy. Wine markups are not excessive. Here is an early review by Frank Bruni of the NYT: click here.
Over dinner it was revealed that the hard-working Lisa (three jobs besides being a full-time NYU student) would be doing her internship at Kramerica. She will be doing press relations and similar, murky things to make the company better known. This is very exciting news and I'm sure we all wish Lisa the best.
On a more somber note, I have been receiving more and more information about the real goings-on in Brunelloworld. Even Hercules would find it hard to clean out these Augean stables.
Finally, if you want a hint as to why wine prices from Euro-zone nations are so high, check out the comments in a post by Fredric Koeppel on Bigger than your head. Aside from -- for example -- the people who gave us Brunellopoli, the majority of Italian winemakers are just squeaking by. They are not getting fat on our dollar diet.

Yes! Karmerica here I come!
