I don't want to sensationalize this, but an article in the Times today reports that scientists have found how resveratrol activates a protein called sirtuin (does that remind anyone else of "Serutan", a health tonic which was suggestively tagged as nature's spelled backwards?) -- which helps mitigate the effects of ageing. See opening para:
A new insight into the reason for aging has been gained by scientists trying to understand how resveratrol,
a minor ingredient of red wine, improves the health and lifespan of
laboratory mice. They believe that the integrity of chromosomes is
compromised as people age, and that resveratrol works by activating a
protein known as sirtuin that restores the chromosomes to health.

You see, ladies and germs, we are here to bring comfort, aid and long life to a suffering humanity.
Granted, they say resveratrol is a "minor" ingredient in red wine. But it's there nevertheless. And they didn't mention procyanidine at all!
